Is D.C. contagious or just boring??

During the fall of last year, Chicago native and chief of staff of Barack Obama's cabinet Rahm Emanuel Left his position. At his resignation speech he declared he wanted to run for the Mayor of Chicago. It was his dream job, by the way he lost.  I clearly did not really care, like anybody else reading this; today somebody else dropped out of the Obama camp, Ron Klain. He was the chief of staff to vice-president Joe Biden.  Is it me or do people seem to think working for a presidential cabinet is a resume booster, or a six month gig for 'fun' money.  As a job people would kill for a long time ago, today working for the presidential cabinet seems as appealing as the volunteer spot to get necessary hours for a unknown collegiate entrance. I blame the entourage effect, really, the hang and drag tail personnel clause.
Everyone wants to invite all of the supporters and friends into the party; while most of the time when they bring the food and drinks its mostly what you tell them to bring.  Why can't we invite somebody that we do not know, at least he/she will surprise us with something unexpected. They may also be another look here as well, with the near elections coming up next year (Wow, 2008 was three years ago!), they might be jumping a sinking ship.  Yeah.. not going down that road...yet
